Never Going Back
Written by Mark Croft
I’ve walked in those shoes before but they didn’t take me anywhere My heels traced circles on the floor Until I nailed my ass to the chair Left me lying in the night With sleepless dreams of taking flight but a leap of faith was another cross I couldn’t bear So I’m gonna make damn sure that I’m never going back
I’ve felt the tension rise In a million aching hands I’ve seen the butterfly Effect make its demands I’ve heard the voices chanting mechanized, A chorus of unending lies but I couldn’t leave until I made my stand
So I’m gonna make damn sure that I’m never going back I’m gonna make damn sure that I’m never going back I’m gonna search the coast until I see the light Waiting for me on the other side And make damn sure that I’m never going back
Now the buildings look like gravestones And the wind blows scattered bank notes And the church bells sing their lonely three notes songs. I searched all around the darkness But I found every fire spark-less and I pray to God they don’t realized I’m gone
I’m gonna make damn sure that I’m never going back I’m gonna make damn sure that I’m never going back Yeah I’m gonna leave this boat where it capsized ditch this Ford after I slash the tires And make damn sure that I’m never going back.
